Mr. Simon Hines Jr., 94, of Riceboro, departed this life on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2012, at Hospice Savannah.
He was born in Riceboro to the late Simon Hines Sr. and Sarah Wilson Hines. He was married to the late Jessie Mae Hines. She preceded him in death in November 2008. He was a faithful member of the First Zion Missionary Baptist Church. He served on its deacon board, the Progressive Missionary Baptist Association Executive Board and on the board of counsels at the church and the custodian board.
He leaves to cherish his memories five sons, Leron (Ruby) Hines of Savannah, Deacon Simon (Robin) Hines III of Riceboro, Ray (Carolyn) Hines of Riceboro, Melvin Hines of Miami, Fla., and Luke Hines of Riceboro; three daughters, Jackelene Hines of Jacksonville, Jessie Mae (Aundry) Jones of Riceboro and Nancy Harvey of Riceboro; two sisters, Betty Hines of Hinesville and Dollie (Johnnie) Hargrove of Goose Creek, S.C.; 32 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
His wake will be from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 5, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 6, at First Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 1642 Barrington Ferry Road, Riceboro. His body will be placed in the church at 1 p.m. Burial will be in the First Zion Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery.
