Leroy Morgan, 73, of Hinesville departed this life on Friday, Dec. 7, 2012 at the Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville.
He was born on June 1, 1939, in Valdosta to Tommie Alexander and Blanche Morgan. He was adopted by the Marshall family as an infant. He was educated in the Valdosta Public School System, graduating from Pinevale High School.
He served in the U.S. Army for 22 years and retired as a sergeant first class (E-7) in 1980. After retiring, Leroy decided to go back to school to earn his college degree. He attended and graduated from St. Leo College with a bachelor's of science degree in criminology. After graduating from college, Leroy began working as an MOS coordinator at the Fort Stewart Army Education Center. He remained in the position for more than 20 years and left when his health began to decline
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years, Genora; two devoted sons, Larry (Sheron), and Keith; two loving daughters, Marcia and Shawn; four grandchildren, Keith Jr., Deyquan, Devin and Bria; his sister, Annie Mary Powell of Ft. Washington, Md.; three brothers, Macy Alexander of Schnectady, NY, Nathaniel Houseal of Waycross and brother Willie Houseal of Valdosta.
Besides his mother and father, he was preceded in death by brother-in-law, Elliott Powell Sr.
His wake will be from 6-7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 13, in the Frank V. Givens Memorial Chapel at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
His funeral service will be at 12 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Full Gospel Tabernacle, 809 Veterans Parkway in Hinesville. Burial with full military honors will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 8819 U.S. Highway 301 in Glennville. Pastor A.D. Shaw will officiate.
