Mr. Lewis Warren Varnedoe Jr., 65, of Hinesville, departed this life on Dec. 8, 2012, in Savannah.

Lewis was born in the McIntosh Community of Liberty County to the late Lewis Varnedoe Sr. and Arrollia Howard Varnedoe. He attended Liberty County public schools and later went to the Job Corps in California. He worked for the Liberty County Board of Education as a custodian for many years.
Those left to mourn his passing include his son, Lewis Varnedoe III of Riceboro; five brothers, Jessie D. Varnedoe of Sparta, Lawrence W. (Veronica) Varnedoe of Orlando, Fla., Willie C. (Rosemary) Varnedoe of Hinesville, Joseph M. Varnedoe of Hinesville and Darsey O. (Bessie) of Vocaville, Calif.; four sisters, Lois Whiteside, Marilyn (William) Wardlow of Hinesville, Ida Mae (Alfonso) McBill of Lauraboro, N.C., and Wanda Johnson of Midway; eight aunts, the Rev. Ollie M. Howard of Hinesville, Mattie Bell Mitchell, Ann Rogers, Julia (Charles) Coleman, all of Chicago, Jenny (Rev. Hosea) Daniels of Tampa, Fla., Maybell Eason of Hinesville, Earline Martin of Jacksonville and Ozzetta Jackson of Syracuse, N.Y.; four uncles, George Varnedoe of Midway, Leroy Varnedoe of Savannah, Sammie Joe Varnedoe of El Paso, Texas, and Clarence Varnedoe of San Francisco; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Viewing the will be from 1-5 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14, at Dorchester Funeral Home in Midway.
His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 15, at the Frank V. Givens Memorial Chapel of Dorchester Funeral Home, 7842 E. Oglethorpe, Midway. Burial will be in St. Peter's AME Church Memorial Gardens in Midway.
