Specialist John Eubank, Yupik name Uicimall'eq, 29, died Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, on Fort Stewart.
He was born Dec. 15, 1983, in Mountain Village, Alaska. He enlisted in the U.S. Army on Nov. 5, 2003, attended basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C., and AIT at Fort Eustis, VA. In October 2004 he arrived at Hunter Army Airfield where he was assigned to 416th Transportation Company. Two months later, he deployed to Iraq as a heavy vehicle driver for his company for 12 months. Two years later, he deployed to Iraq again for 15 months and assisted as a heavy vehicle driver for 512th Quartermaster Company, a sister company from Hunter Army Airfield.
Upon redeployment in May 2012, Spec. Eubank moved to the 473rd Quartermaster Company and later to the 396th Transportation Company on Fort Stewart. With 396th, he deployed to Afghanistan where he served as part of a convoy escort team in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, returning in May 2013.
Spec. Eubank's awards and decorations include the Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Noncommissioned Officer Professional Development Ribbon, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon, NATO Medal, Combat Action Badge and the Army Driver and Mechanic Badge.
Survivors are his wife, Lillie Mai Eubank of Fort Stewart; two stepdaughters, Angel Wells of Brunswick and Bonnie Wells of Jacksonville; his mother, Doris Eubank of Mountain Village; sister, Kassandra Eubank-Littlefield of Sitka, Alaska; two brothers, Robert Eubank of Roy, Wash., and Stephan Eubank of Mountain Village.
Visitation will be from 1-3 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 26, at Howard Funeral Home in Ludowici.
Committal services will be on Friday, Dec. 27, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Glennville with full military honors.
