Leroy Harris Obituary

Leroy Edward "Ed" Harris
3/28/1939 - 2/21/2013

Leroy Edward "Ed" Harris, 73, of Lincoln, California, went to live with our Lord Jesus on Thursday, February 21, 2013, at 1:46 a.m. after a long hard battle with Alzheimer.
Leroy, or as family and friends would call him, Ed, was born March 28, 1939, in Charleston, West Virginia, to the late William and Donna Kessler Harris.
Ed is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years Carrie Lee Sherrill Harris; his children, Connie Harris, Wayne Harris, Cherie Harris Barber, Eddie Harris and Sara Harris Woods. He is also survived by his only brother, Paul Harris and his wife Suzanne, of North Carolina and his five sisters; Billie Harris Counts of Louisiana, Jesse Harris Jones and her husband Joe of Washington, Carolyn (Sue) Harris Bailey and her husband Ed of Connecticut, Mary Harris Shipp and her husband Tom of Ohio, and Helen (Becky) Hancock of Virginia. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. Ed was a very loving brother, brother-in-law, and uncle to his family. His wife's sisters, Levona Sherrill and Vema Foster, were treated like his own sisters. Levona and Vema along with her husband Kenneth, have many wonderful stories of their times together.
Ed's children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren never failed to tell their grandfather how much he meant to them. He was loved, cherished, and respected by all who knew him. His supportive, compassionate, and loving attitude affected all who came in contact with him. Ed and Carrie were always very devoted to their canine friends. Ed got a lot of exercise playing with Savannah (Jack Russell) in their pool and walking Sierra (Chow/Golden Retriever). Sierra would bring his shoes to him so he could take her for their walk.
Ed enjoyed football, baseball, working in his yard, gardening, and barbeques.
After Ed became ill, his family's love continued to deepen for him. He loved all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. One of his favorite things to do was have all his family and friends over for a swim and Sara's overcooked tri-tip. He loved all the holidays because it meant the house would be full.
He had served in the United States Air Force. At P.G.&E., he started out as a warehouseman and worked his way up to supervisor. Retired from P.G.& E. in 2001 after 35 years of service. In the meantime and during his time at P.G. & E., Ed had joined and then retired from the Air Force Reserves.
The family would like to thank Hospice and the Kaiser Permanente Foundation for helping make Ed's last days bearable giving him the chance to pass at home in the loving arms of his wife and children. They would also like to thank Aunt Suzanne for her help in writing his life story.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Apri1 12, 2013, at the Wheatland Community Fellowship Church of God, 4753 Wheatland Road, Wheatland, Calif., with Pastor John Burns officiating.
