Susan Lee Phillips 12/03/1944 - 12/16/2014 In loving memory of Susan Lee Phillips who passed away on December 16, 2014 in Auburn, Calif. Susan is survived by her loving daughter Kimberley Wheeler - Findley, son-in-law Roger Findley, grandson Donnie Wheeler, and dearest friend Patty Hempel. She will be deeply missed by all of us.

Powers, Martha  
Martha Powers 10/18/27-12/16/14 Martha Josephine Powers, age 87, passed away peacefully, to be with our Heavenly Father, in Auburn, Calif., on Tuesday, December 16, 2014. She was born on October 18, 1927, in Columbus, Ohio. Martha is survived by her five children, which she referred to as "the finest accomplishments in my life"; Linda J. Okray, Richard Michael Denton, Mary J. Pittman, William F. Denton and Kevin W. Denton. She is also survived by her beloved 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. After graduating from Rosary High School in Columbus, Ohio, she attended Canisius College in Buffalo, NY. She also attended CSU Sacramento and ultimately received a Masters Degree in Education/Administration. She received a California Teaching Credential for Standard Elementary and Specialist for the Learning Handicapped. Her long and distinguished employment career began when she entered the novitiate at Stella Niagara, New York and professed her vows with the Sisters of St. Francis in September 1945. Her religious name was Sister Richard and while with the order she became an assistant administrator at an orphanage in Buffalo, New York. Later in her life, Martha became a secular with the Franciscan order in California. Martha proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps, stationed at San Francisco, Calif. She also taught at various parochial schools, including, St. Joseph's Catholic School in Auburn. As well, Martha worked as a Psychiatric Technician at the Dewitt State Mental Hospital in Auburn, and a Deputy Probation Officer with Placer and Nevada Counties. She retired as the Chief, Disability Compliance for Sacramento county in 1994. Martha was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She had a compassionate heart, a remarkable love of God and a notable sense of humor. She was an imposing advocate for those in need. She was a avid sports fan. Martha is deeply loved and will be immensely missed. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the following: Viewing at Lassila Funeral Chapel, 551 Grass Valley Highway, Auburn, Calif., on Sunday, December 28, 2014 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with a Rosary at 7 p.m. Service will be held on Monday, December 29, 2014, at 11 a.m., at St. Teresa Of Avila Catholic Church, 11600 Atwood Road, Auburn, Calif., with a reception to follow at the Church Fellowship Hall. Graveside services are Tuesday, December 30, 2014, at 1 p.m., at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery, 6700 21st Avenue, Sacramento, Calif. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial funds be donated to the Marshall Foundation at Marshall Hematology & Oncology, 3102 Ponte Moreno Drive, Cameron Park, CA., 95682. We would like to thank all the staff of Emerald Hills Senior Living in Auburn for their help and support.
