Gordon Delmar Brookhart 04/17/1926 - 03/19/2015 Gordon Delmar Brookhart passed away peacefully with his wife by his side in his home in Granite Bay, Calif. on March 19, 2015. He was born on April 17, 1926 in Nuckolls County, Nelson, Nebraska and grew up in Hastings, Nebr. In World War II at age 18, he went into the U.S. Army stationed at Ft. Hood, Texas in the 96th Infantry Division 381 Battalion, C Company, known as the "Dead Eyes". He was sent to the Pacific and was in 43 days of combat, being injured on Okinawa. He received the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. After World War II he was in the active reserves and then the Korean Conflict started. He went into the U.S. Air Force. After his honorable discharge he went to work for the State of California as a bridge Architectural Assistant with the Department of Transportation Bridge Department. He retired in 1983 with 35 years of service. Gordon was an avid organic gardener and war history buff. He is a life time member of the Folsom VFW Post 6604, also a member of American Legion and contributor to NPO No. Californians for Nebraska. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty Jean, two daughters, Shawndra Skoonberg (Alan; Michelle Robards (Tim); Three sons, Prof. Burt M. Bradley (Janet); Timothy A. Bradley; Dennis S. Bradley; sister, DeEtte Gerdes; brother, Gary Brookhart (Bev) also numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Evan and Virgie; brother, Darrel; sisters, Irma, Iola and Eunice. Gordon loved his family, his country and God. He is gone but will never be forgotten. The family invites you to attend a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, April 3, 2015 at Chapel of the Valley 97 Vernon Street Roseville, Calif. 95678, His burial will be at East Lawn Memorial Park 43rd & Folsom. In lieu of flowers your contributions can be made in his name to American Society or Veterans of Foreign Wars.
