George Delbert Rasmussen

George Delbert Rasmussen born, January 20, 1921 and passed away April 15, 2013. George Delbert Rasmussen was the third of twelve children born to Hans Christian and Neva Elizabeth Rasmussen in Little Falls, Minnesota.
George's family moved to Marysville, California when he was a teenager. As a young adult, George joined the army
air corps and served during World War II
. He later met and married Lola May Fowler. George took advantage of the GI bill and graduated from CSUS, despite the fact that he had never gone to high school, and earned a BA and an MA in Elementary Education. He taught in the San Juan District for many years. In the summers he worked at Camp Winthers in Soda Springs as a teacher and later as the camp's director. With a love for camping, fishing, chopping wood, farming, and gardening, George was a devoted outdoorsman. A man of many talents, he enjoyed square-dancing, playing cards, bowling, playing harmonica, singing in a barber shop quartet, and he was an excellent storyteller. He also was a member of the York Rite Masons in Auburn, and served as High Priest of Delta Chapter No. 27, Illustrious Master of Gateway Council #13, and Commander of the Auburn Commandery.
George will be missed by all who knew him. In addition to his wife, he is survived by six children: Jude Hryce (Ken), Curtis (Grace), Janie Moore (John), Gregg, Don (Danna), Carol Marceau (Ben), thirteen grandchildren, and one great-granddaughter due in June.
Memorial Service is May 4, 2013, 11am, at the Veteran's Memorial Hall in Auburn, Calif.
