On February 18, 2013, George James Douglas, long time resident of Auburn passed away peacefully due to heart disease.
George was born December 6, 1928 to Mark Lyle and Olympia George Douglas in Berkeley, Calif. The family decided to move to Auburn in 1936 where his parents opened up a drug store known as Douglas Drug. George graduated from Placer High School and decided to enlist in the U.S. Navy. After coming back to California, he served in the Naval Reserves for 18 years. During his time back in Auburn, he attended Sierra College. He decided to head south to Los Angeles where he became a motor cycle police officer for the Beverly Hills Police Department. Due to an on the job injury, he had to leave a job he loved. He then moved to Nevada to start a career in the gaming business, doing various jobs from security to supervision. He spent many years on the job, retired and moved back to Auburn, where he enjoyed many different hobbies including visiting with his life-long friends, target shooting, reloading and perfecting his quick draw. He was a proud lifetime member of the NRA, and believed strongly in the 2nd Amendment. He was also a long time member of the Clampers.
George is survived by his three daughters Diana Fields (Terry), Kathy Siewert (Dave), and Lisa Cameron, grandchildren; Michelle Leighty, Kelly Fields, Stephanie Siewert and Travis Seiwert and two great-grandchildren; Sage Jones and Ethan Leighty.
