Mary Marie Duncan

Mary was born on October 14, 1920 in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Zachariah and Mary Nora Bishop. She had nine siblings. Following the death of her father when she was only three years old, Mary's family moved to a farm outside the city, where her mother and older brothers provided for the others. When she was a young adult, she moved to southern California where she met and married Edwin Duncan. Together they had four children. She and Edwin moved to the foothills of northern California some sixty years ago making their home in Applegate.
Mary spent a number of years working in the school cafeteria but spent most of her time as a homemaker. She was an avid reader who always loved a good mystery or suspense novel. She was a strong, compassionate and hard working woman, a loving mother and devoted wife.
Mary is survived by her four children and their spouses; Edwin Arthur Duncan and his wife, Danna, Lloyd Duncan and his wife Cheryl, Lois Cundiff and her husband Aaron, and Stan Duncan and his wife Laura. She is also survived by her five grandchildren, Christopher Duncan, Jonathon Duncan, Jeffrey Duncan,Amy Parson, Matthew Downey and three great-grandchildren, Kristen Duncan,Britney Duncan and Jessica Duncan. She is preceded in death by her husband, Edwin L. Duncan, her parents and all nine siblings.
Funeral services will be held at the Chapel of the Hills in Auburn on Wednesday, January 2, 2012 at 12 p.m. Burial will follow at the New Auburn Cemetery.
