Rodney Blair "Rod" Varley(1947 - 2018)

Rod was born in San Francisco on July 7, 1947 and passed away on August 22, 2018 in Roseville, Calif. Rod is survived by his son, Blair R. Varley and was preceded in death by his mother, Hazel M. Varley and father, William H. Varley. He is also survived by his stepdaughter, Megan Ham, grandchildren, Kayla Ham, Evan Ham and also Mary Jane Perkins and many friends.
Rod and his family moved from San Francisco to Loomis in 1949. Rod attended Loomis Grammar School and graduated from Del Oro High School in 1965. He was then employed by the Southern Pacific Railroad in Roseville as an Electrician until his retirement.
Rod was a member of the Penryn Gold Hill Lodge No 32, Masons of the State of California. A Master Mason, he was presented with the HIRAM AWARD, the highest honor that can be bestowed on a member of a Masonic Lodge, for his extraordinary devotion.
Rod had many hobbies; including motorcycle racing, flat track and speedway racing, restoration of vintage automobiles, motorcycles and tractors. In his spare time, he would drive around to friends' gatherings with his mobile BBQ to cook his famous ribs for their special occasions.
Rod will be missed by his family and friends for all his good deeds, love and devotion.
Memorial Service to be held at the Newcastle Gold Hill Cemetery Pavilion, 850 Taylor Rd, in Newcastle on Friday, Sept. 14 at 1 p.m. Celebration of Life will follow at the Blue Goose Event Center, 3550 Taylor Rd. in Loomis at 3 p.m.
