On May 9, 2013, our beloved hero passed away peacefully and became our guardian angel.
He was a loving and dedicated husband of over 64 years, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend to all he met. He will be deeply missed by all those who knew him.
Troey was a New Year's Baby - born January 1, 1923 in Rotan, Texas. On May 24, 1944, Troey married the love of his life and high school sweetheart, Wilda Browning. In 1946 they welcomed their first child Russ, then in 1948 their daughter Sue.
Troey began his Air Force career in 1941 and was honorably retired in 1966 after receiving many decorations and medals of honor for his role of piloting B-26 Marauders in World War II, The Korean and Vietnam Wars.
In the late 60's Troey moved to Burma to assist Union of Burma Airlines to become operational in jet aircraft. He then moved to Tokyo, Japan for about 13 years where he was captain and later Chief Pilot of JAL (Japan Airlines) flying his favorite 747's.
In 1983 Troey turned 60, which ended his career as an airline captain. That same year Wilda and Troey moved back states side where they had a home built in the Auburn Lake Trails in Cool, Calif., where they remained for some 20 years before moving to Spokane, Wash., to be closer to their children and grandchildren.
Survivors include brother-in-laws Dub Browning of Centennial, Colorado and Jimmy Browning of Snyder, Tex.; daughter-in-law Nancy Daffern of Omak, Wash.; grandchildren, Teresa Crabb (Kelly) of Lewiston, Idaho; Mike Daffern of Spokane, Wash., and Russell Daffern II of Omak, Wash.; Lezlie (Darryl) Samuel of Puyallup, Wash.; Troey (Shawna) Daffern of Roswell, N.M. and Rena Scott of Seattle, Wash. Troey is also survived by great-granddaughter's Rachael Crabb of Lewiston and Nomi Samuel of Puyallup, Wash.
Troey was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Lee and Dan Daffern, wife Wilda (2009), son Russell (2004) and daughter Sue (2006).
Per his request, he is being cremated and a family memorial will be held at a later date.
