Betty Jane Broadway of Auburn, Calif. died peacefully November 6, 2012 at the age of 90 years.
Betty was born to Charles E. Temple and Mary Elizabeth McElroy Temple on June 21, 1922 in Mattoon, Ill.
The Temple family moved to Meadow Vista, Calif. in 1927. Arriving in their Model A, with keepsakes tied to the running boards.
Samuel and Amanda McElroy, Betty's grandparents, had a 20 acre ranch, where the Temple family resided for a while until they moved to Grass Valley where her father went to work at the golf course.
Betty attended the one room school house in Meadow Vista, Calif. She attended a different school every year because of father's work. Her high school graduation was in Fresno, Calif. Summers would be spent in Meadow Vista with her grandparents. How she loved the ole Scotsman. One summer she got a job at the Coffee Cup. She worked as an usher at the Tower Theater in Sacramento. Also at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento.
Betty was working at the USO in Long Beech, Calif. when she met an Army soldier named Howard W. Martin from Sasacawa, Okla. after a whirlwind courtship they were married July 4, 1942 in Quartzite, Arizona. Together they had six children; Gay, Gerald "Jerry", Vickie, Jeanene, Howard E. and Clyde Martin. They spent 21 years in Meadow Vista. All children attended Placer Hills Elementary and Placer Union High School. Howard W. Martin passed away in 1964 at age 43.
The Martins and Broadways had been friends since 1954. The men worked together off and on in the concrete business.
Betty Martin married Jim Broadway January, 1971 in Reno, Nevada. Together they enjoyed years working on their property, owning the Elders corner bar, traveling around the USA and more. Plus raising 10 children, Betty's six and Jim's four; Thelbert, Rose Ellen, Robert and Wilford Broadway.
Mrs. Broadway is survived by a sister Thelma Carolyn Waters residing in North Hollywood. Her children Gay Robertson (Richard) , Rose Ellen Broadway (Dennis) and step children Thelbert Broadway, Vickie Jensen (Kerby), Jeanene Licudine (Marvin Halley), Howard Martin (Nancy) Wilford and Robert Broadway, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by Jerry Martin passed June 1992, Clyde Martin June 2007 and granddaughter Amber Martin December 2007.
A private memorial was held at the Broadway home November 12, 2012.
Betty was an amazing, loving, wonderful soul, loved by all and will be greatly missed.

I will always remember Betty the smile on her face. When I first met her she made me feel like she has always known me and I felt very comfortable talking with her . I will miss you Betty but the memories I have of you will always be in my heart and mind.
