Doris Claudia Anderson, happily retired and garden hobbyist, passed away in Auburn, Saturday, July 20, 2013 the age of 73, following a short illness.
Claudia leaves behind her loving husband and best friend of seven years, Donald C. Anderson.
She is lovingly remembered by her brother, Hugh Holloway; sisters, Barbara DeCosta and Sara Jeanne McWilliams; son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Cyndi Whitehead; daughters and sons-in-laws, Stephanie and Kelly Mizuno, Sheryl and David Brown; step-children, Brant Armstrong and wife Janet, Nicole Whisenhunt, Dawn Alves-Rice and husband Rob, David Anderson and wife Donna; and grandchildren, Sara Armstrong-Sahin, Cora Mason Mead, Alexis Brown, Chris Alves, Scott Alves, Jared Alves, Jennifer Anderson; and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. Predeceased by her parents, Claud and Margaret Holloway, and grandsons Eddie Mason and Sean Armstrong.
Claudia was born in Houston, Tex., and attended Alvin High School. In her early 20s she moved to Oroville, Calif., and later lived in the Central Valley and Foothills.
She earned a license in real estate and most of her career was in property management.
Her first job at a drug store cosmetic counter, she also worked in a dress shop with her mother as a seamstress and sales women, as a Home Interiors hostess, apartment cleaner, and most recently a medical office manager.
Claudia will be remembered for cherishing family and togetherness, and in recent years organized large family reunions connecting relatives who'd long lost touch. She enjoyed gardening: growing roses, Sago palms, cactus, and giant award-winning pumpkins-receiving 1st Place in the 2012 Gold Country Fair for a 264lb pumpkin.
She often traveled with Don, discovering wonderful places and experiences, taking several trips to the Hawaiian Islands.
Claudia was a member of the Placer Co. Council of the Navy League and Auburn Aviation Assoc.
A memorial service and reception will be held at Lassila Funeral Chapels, 551 Grass Valley Highway Monday, August 5, 2013 at 10 a.m. A private internment at the Auburn Cemetery will follow.
