Our loving wife and mother, JoAnn Soe Anderson passed away Sunday, December 23, 2018 at the age of 87. JoAnn was born on February 21, 1931 in Clovis, New Mexico to Dr. Carl Arthur Soe and Viola Evangeline (Jensen) Soe. The family moved to Lead, South Dakota where JoAnn graduated from high school in 1949, later earning her Associates Degree from South Dakota State University and Bachelor's Degree and Teaching Credential from Colorado State College of Education. JoAnn married her South Dakota State University sweetheart and Second Lieutenant, Charles Anderson, in 1952, and soon moved to Cape Cod. After the Korean War the couple settled in San Luis Obispo, California where they built their first home and raised their children Jan, Karen and Kurt. The family relocated to Auburn, California in 1969 where JoAnn became a passionate teacher of children and adults, creating the first adult education for the visually impaired through Placer County Adult Education. JoAnn was a member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church, PEO, and the Auburn Ski Club, among many other inspiring ventures. She also taught pottery for many years and was deeply engaged in the community at Holden Village, a Lutheran retreat center in the Cascade Mountains of Washington.
JoAnn is survived by her husband, Charles, of 66 years, three children and their spouses, Jan (and Joe) Livingston, Karen (and Stan) Hogans, and Kurt (and Debbie Kristensen) Anderson. JoAnn is also survived by five grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, and her sister, Carole Wheeler.
We have been so blessed to have such a loving and caring wife and mother and will be sharing a grateful remembrance of JoAnn Soe Anderson at Bethlehem Lutheran Church (1279 High St, Auburn, California) on Friday, February 1, 2019 at 4 PM; friends and family are all welcome.
