Richard Dunton passed away peacefully at his home in Auburn, Calif., on November 18, 2012, having faced Parkinson's with courage and dignity.
Richard was born in San Francisco to Melvin and Ruby Dunton. As a child during the Great Depression he climbed out of poverty to become a distinguished Naval Officer and served in World War II and the Korean War. Having served his country he laid down his arms and became a successful business man in the Bay Area. With his wife Christina he retired in Auburn 2002.
With zest he drank from the cup of life and tried his best to open the eyes of family members to the world and other people around us, so that we too learned to enjoy life as he did. He loved family gatherings, world-wide traveling, good food, visiting with neighbors while walking Oskar, reading, hiking, fishing, skiing, and last but not least dancing.
He is survived by his wife Christina of 42 years; his sister, Faye Heidenreich (Bud Corello); his children: Linda Allan, Tracey Coddington (David), Monty (Tori), Randy (Pascale), Konrad (Patricia) and Yvonne (Robert Salisbury); and his beloved dog Oskar. He leaves behind nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He is now joined with his son, Rodney and grandson, Ariel.
The family gratefully thanks Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice caregivers Daena, Joyce, Lisa, Dorothy and Deborah. Special thanks to Gloria and Janys, who assisted Richard for an extended period of time, friends and neighbors who supported us throughout this journey.
The family will have an open house to celebrate Richard's life between 1 and 4 p.m., Saturday December 15, 2012 at the Dunton home.
In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Parkinson's Foundation or Sutter Auburn Faith Hospice.
