William Ernst Batterman joyfully went to heaven to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on January 12, 2014.
Bill, as all his friends and loved ones called him, was born on November 10, 1924 at Havillah, Washington to parents William and Emily Battermann. He met his love Martha Thompson and they married on June 1, 1946.
Bill was actively involved in the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, having graduated from Concordia Lutheran Teachers College in Seward, Nebraska as a D. C. E. and Teacher.
They moved to El Cerrito in 1966 where he began his church ministry. Bill serviced ad DCE at Grace Lutheran Church in El Cerrito, until taking a leave to teach school Richmond, Calif., and Piedmont, Calif. He retired in 1989 and remained involved in his church.
Bill and Martha moved to Auburn in 2001.
He is survived by: his wife Martha of 67 years. Their children Carol Sherrill (Gene), Helen Kroeger (John), Stephen Battermann (Donna), Laura Berkhouse (Terry), 12 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, 6 great great grandchildren. He is also survived by one sister Lydia Hylton in Tigard, Oregon.
A celebration of life will be held on February 1, 2014 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 275 Nation Dr. Auburn, CA 95603.
