Thomas Frank Kongs

Thomas Frank Kongs of Cripple Creek succumbed to cancer May 14, 2014. He is survived by his wife Susan Kay Heaton Kongs and three siblings: John Patrick Kongs (Kathy) of Raleigh, NC, David Jerome Kongs (Luann) of Marysville, KS, Susan Kongs Atkins (Steven), Phoenix, AZ, and fifteen nephews and nieces.
He was born January 28, 1945 in Moline, KS to Loretta Martha Cohorst Horn Kongs and Joseph Francis Horn. His father died in a WWII related plane crash two days before Tom's birth. Tom was adopted by Aloysius Peter Kongs when his mother remarried in 1950.
Tom graduated from Marysville, Kansas High School in 1963 and KSU School of Architecture in 1969. He worked for Denver Regional Transportation District for 35 years in various positions and retired as Manager of Contracted Services.
His hobbies included nature photography, woodworking and wood turning. He was very active in Teller County Regional Animal Shelter (TCRAS) and served on the Board for several years. His dogs, Auggie and Tessa brought great joy to his life.
He will be sorely missed for his kind, generous, gentle and fun loving spirit. Those wanting to make a memorial donation may direct it to TCRAS, Box 904, Divide, CO 80814.
Cremation followed death. Friends are invited to a Celebration of Life on May 25 at 1 PM at El Tesoro Retreat Center in Woodland Park.
