Leorabel Carper passed
away April 6, 2018 at her
home in Amelia Virginia
from pneumonia at the age
of 92.
Known by all as Lee, she
touched a great many lives
in the Golden Colorado
community with her sparkling personality
and helpful attitude.
Lee was born in Alamosa Colorado
on December 24, 1925 to Marguerite
Isabell Hazard and Harold Davis Foster;
their only child.
To the dismay of her parents, as a
senior at Alamosa High School, Leorabel
eloped on November 7 to Parkview
New Mexico with her sweetheart
Charles Robert Carper.
The young couple settled in Denver
Colorado and had two daughters,
Beverly Jean and Carol Lynn. Lee was
a stay at home mom.
Later, when the girls were older, she
began what was to become a 30 year
career as Head of Circulation
at the Colorado School
of Mines, Arthur Lakes
Library in Golden Colorado
where she laid the groundwork
for the installation
of the circulation desk
hardware and computerized
checkout system. As manager
she monitored the circulation system,
supervised staff and assisted patrons;
setting a good example by being
honest, fair, dependable and always
helping others.
Lee was preceded in death by her
parents, her husband Charles, and her
two companions later in life, Chuck
Decker, and Lou Watkins. She is survived
by her daughters, three grandchildren,
and six great-grandchildren.
