Obituary Condolences

Jody Collins of Lafayette, Colorado passed away peacefully on March 20, 2014. She was 82 years of age. Jody was born in Beech Grove, Indiana to Carrold and Blanche Stevenson. She graduated from Howe High School in Indianapolis, Indiana. She is survived by her son, Randall and wife, Beth of Woodstock, NY; daughter, Kimberly of Lafayette; and sister Carole (Suz) Schmidt of South Carolina. Jody also has two grandchildren, Shane and Jason Collins, and 3 great grandchildren. Jody was married in 1950 to Lloyd Collins and she and Lloyd celebrated over 40 years of marriage before he preceded her in death in 1993. After her marriage, Jody and Lloyd lived in Indiana, Mississippi (with the Air Force) and then Kingston, New York before settling in 1966 in Lafayette. Jody was a devoted and supportive mother throughout her life. In the 1970's she wrote a weekly article in the Lafayette Leader newspaper called the Lafayette Ladybug. Her vivacious and outgoing personality then led her into the real estate business with The Fort Real Estate in Lafayette. She later purchased The Fort and joined forces with Debbi Ferguson and the company became Collins and Fergusons' Fort Real Estate. She practiced real estate until the day she became ill in 2007. The office is now Metro Brokers and is still in business on Public Road in Lafayette. Jody was as dedicated to real estate as she was to her family and she bent over backwards to help hundreds of people purchase their first and subsequent homes. Jody was an active member of the Lafayette Chamber of Commerce and she and Lloyd served on the Board of Avista Hospital. Jody loved animals and she was almost always seen in the company of her beloved cocker spaniels. Jody lived a very full life. She travelled extensively, including a 2011 cruise through the Panama Canal with her family. Jody lived at Frasier Meadows Retirement Community from 2007 until 2014, where she thrived. Even through her many illnesses, she never lost her sense of humor and she always had a smile or a funny comment for everyone. She was a victim of the flooding of September 2013 and lost her residence. The dedicated staff of Frasier Meadows insured that she and the other residents were evacuated safely and eventually moved to her new residence at Golden West in Boulder. Jody had just moved from there to her permanent home at Balfour where she reported being happier than she had ever been just prior to her passing. Services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, March 26, 2014 at Darrell Howe Mortuary, 1701 W. South Boulder Road in Lafayette. Visitation will be the evening before on Tuesday, March 25 from 6:00 to 7:00 P.M. Donations can be made in lieu of flowers to either the Boulder County Humane Society, 5320 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, CO 80303 or Frasier Meadows Retirement Community, 350 Ponca Place, Boulder, CO 80303.
