Geyer, Opal Larue
Opal Larue Geyer was born to Nettie and Edwin Keith Jones in Exeter, Missouri, on Valentine's Day, February 14, 1917. She passed away April 12, 2015 in Chico, California at the age of 98. "Opie" lived in Orland, Chico, Gridley and Clipper Mills during her marriages to Frank F. Wood and later to Howard Geyer. She worked primarily for the City of Chico in the Public Works Department. Always active, she took leadership roles in Republican Women and her sorority, Omega Nu. She especially enjoyed her church fellowship. Her smile, when given as a welcome or reward, would melt a heart. The quintessential southern belle, there was nothing she liked better than to receive guests and to offer refreshments, even while recuperating from a broken hip. She is survived by two daughters, Sharon Phippen (J.D. Dixon) of Orland, and Linda Kiehn (Bob) of Chico. Other survivors include six grandchildren, Patti Aust, Brad Piper, Michal Swithebank, Brenda Whitaker, Stephen and Stacie Piper, and Angela Landsfeld (James) of New Tripoli of Pennsylvania. She is also survived by a niece, Terry German of Chico and a nephew, Gary Nevis of Roseburg, Oregon. She lived to see six great grandchildren and four great great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 25th, at 2 p.m. at Butte Bible Fellowship on Pillsbury Way in Chico. Arrangements are entrusted to Bidwell Chapel.
