Ellie Pratt, 84, of Orland passed away Oct. 20, 2013, at WestHaven Assisted Living. Ellie was born in Sacramento on Dec. 27, 1928, to Buell and Mabel Egbert of Courtland, Calif.
Ellie was raise in Courtland, where she attended grade school and high school where she graduated in 1947. She went on to attend College of Pacific in Stockton and then went to work in Sacramento at the State Department of Personnel.
In April of 1948 she married her boyfriend of two years, Gary Pratt. They lived in Stockton where Ellie went to work for Gaylords Library Supply Co. When her first child Lynda was born in 1950 she became a stay-at-home mom. The family moved to Lodi in 1959, and then to Orland in 1964 where she achieved her dream of being a librarian when she began working for the Orland Free Library. Even as a child she enjoyed playing the role of librarian to her dolls. She retired in 1990 after 25 years of service.
She has always been involved with her church and its activities wherever she lived. After retirement she became active with the Friends of the Orland Library. Gardening gave her much pleasure over the years along with genealogy research, traveling, pressing flowers, quilting, sailing, square dancing, tai chi, and keeping in touch with her pen pals worldwide. She loved her family and that brought her endless pleasure.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Pratt of 65 years; daughters, Lynda Price (Steve) of Chico, Marsha Davis (Monte) of Gerber; son-in-law, Richard Zielesch (Joy) of Gerber as well as one grandson and two great grandchildren residing in Texas. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Zielesch.
A "Celebration of Life" will be held at Federated Church in Orland on Saturday, Oct. 26, 2013 at 2 p.m. Donations may be made to the friends of the Orland Library.
