eWarren Douglas Elmore(1921-2012)

Warren Elmore was born in St. Paul, Minnesota. As a student he worked summers in the fields in the Midwest during the late 1930s. In 1940 he graduated from Butte High School and was Art Club officer and played golf. He moved to Oakland, California where he met the love of his life, Eathel Moore, on the dance floor. Warren and Eathel were married on July 12, 1942 and spent 67 years together enjoying family, friends, square dancing, farming, and raising their three daughters, Rozella Wolf of Asotin, WA, Linda Holm, Chico and Connie Carter, Orland.

In 1942 Warren worked in the copper mines in Butte, Montana and then fought in WWII in the Philippines. After the war, the family moved to Orland and Warren was employed by the Pet Milk Company. He worked in the milk industry for 33 years. During this time he was instrumental in forming and sustaining the Loam Ridge Water District. After Warren retired he found his second love, helping develop the Heritage Trail at the Glenn County Fairgrounds and The Schmidt House. He served as president of the Orland Historical Society for many years. Tinkering and fixing things were his passion. He restored dozens of antique cars, guns, machines, phonographs, and clocks; many of which were donated to various museums in the area. Warren was a history buff and especially enjoyed studying Ancient Egypt and the Civil War. His last project, the history of Pet Milk Company was published just a few months ago.

Warren received the Blue Ribbon Award from the Glenn County Fair and was recognized for outstanding service to the community by the Orland Historical Society in 1997. He was an example of civic responsibility and service for his grandchildren; Rhonda Pride, Robin Holm, Justin Carter, Megan Carter-Selby, Tricia Galvano and great-grand children; Clare and Lily Byrne, Lyndsey Heinz and Mason Galvano.
