Keith B. Meents, 87, of Corning passed away on Feb. 19, 2013 surrounded by his wife and children.
Keith was born Oct. 18, 1925 near Guide Rock, Neb. to Carl and Edna Carpenter Meents. He lived on various farms in Webster County Nebraska. He was an outstanding athlete at Berkley High School and graduated in 1944 as the salutatorian of his class. During WWII
he served in the U.S. Army in the European Theater of Operations.
Upon his discharge, he farmed in Nebraska until 1951 when he and his family moved to Corning. In June of 1952 he married Betty Barton of Blue Hill, Neb., in El Camino Methodist Church. He took up dairy farming southwest of Corning and ran the dairy until 1988. He continued to farm the rest of his life along side his son until the last few months of his life.
He was a long time member of the Corning First Untied Methodist Church where he served in many church offices.
Keith is survived by his wife of 60 years. Betty; daughter, Susan (Korby) Olson of Middletown, Calif.; son Douglas (Deborah) Meents of Corning; two grandsons, Erick Olson and Matthew Meents; brother, Darrell of Corning; sister-in-law, Sylvia of Corning; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Loren, and his sister Ela Jeane Lepp.
A viewing will be held on Feb. 25, 2013 from 4-6 p.m. at Halls Brothers Mortuary in Corning. Funeral services will be held on Feb. 26, 2013 at Halls Brothers Mortuary, followed by a graveside service at Sunset Hills Cemetery in Corning.
