Mike Mattice was a beloved, father, grandfather, brother and friend for 74 years. Known for his upbeat personality and keen sense of humor, Mike found many passions throughout his life. He love traveling the world with Shirley, his wife of 52 years, and enjoyed spending time with his six grandchildren (who knew him as "Pop Pop"). He spent countless hours throwing a line into lakes and streams all over northern California, and found relaxation in later years cruising exotic countries the world over. Mike was fascinated by aviation and space travel, had a sweet tooth for candy and frosty's, and was an avid reader.
Mike was born August 30, 1938 in Willows, Calif. He grew up in Glenn County, attending Orland schools before graduating from Pasadena High School. Mike attended Mt. San Antonio College, training to be a plumber. He and Shirley Markovitz were married on Dec. 18, 1960 in southern California, where they would raise two daughters (Angel and Lee) and made many lifelong friends. They moved the family to Orland in 1977, where they would create even more lasting friendships. Mike, a journeyman plumber would eventually start his own business, Mike's Plumbing, Shirley his bookkeeper. Upon Mike's retirement in 2008, the two began a new passion, traveling the world one cruise-liner at a time.
Mike is survived and will be greatly missed by wife Shirley; daughters, Angel Goings (Ron), Lee Hayton (Shane); grandchildren, Kyle and Taylor Goings, Lauren and Jared Flower, Jessica and Shayla Hayton; and sisters, Kate Spillman, Bonnie Mattice, and Tina Wallace.
