Arlene Burdett Hansen Obituary
Long-time Corning resident Arlene Hansen passed away peacefully on April 28, 2013. Arlene was born on August 4, 1931 in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Arlene was married to Richard W. Hansen on August 11, 1950 in Detroit, Michigan and they soon moved to Southern California to start a neon sign business. Later moving to Chico, Richard worked at Northern Neon for many years. In 1961 they opened The Glassblowers on Hwy 99w at South Avenue and together they enjoyed a successful business for over 45 years selling their own glass art items, and local olive products. As a talented glass artist, she created beautiful glass wedding cake top ornaments, and specialty spun glass angels. During her life in Corning, Arlene was active in BPW (Business and Professional Organization), and supported her husband in Rotary International, as a Rotary-Ann. For many years she served as a board member of the Tehama Co. Mental Health. In 2007, Arlene moved to Chico to be closer to family members. Arlene radiated a rare and beautiful presence. She was a very spiritual woman who attended and supported the Spiritual Enrichment Center of Chico. As the saying goes, Arlene never met a stranger. She had an incredible gift for conversation with everyone she met!

Arlene loved her five children. She took pride in her well-known Victorian home at the corner of East and Almond Streets. One of her biggest joys in life was hosting family dinners and holidays. She was an excellent cook with her family famous "Chicken Delight". She was a lover of rose bushes, had a fabulous garden, and collected glass paperweights from around the world. An adventurous traveler, she visited China, cruised the Panama Canal, Scandinavian countries, and Russia. She loved arts and crafts and spent many hours sewing, knitting, and doing needlework. Her hands were never idle.

Arlene was preceded in death by her husband Richard in 1983. She is survived by her children Deanna (Sam) Persaud of Chico, Karen Hansen Thompson of San Rafael, Renita Hansen of Red Bluff, Eric (Cheryl) Hansen of Argyle, Texas, and Ron Hansen of Chico. Arlene had 9 grandchildren, Ryan Persaud, Joelene Monestier, Matthew Hansen, Lana Persaud, Alex Hansen, Janelle and Bobby Hansen, Nicholas Hansen and Darby Richhart. She will surely be missed.

Services will be held Friday May 3, 2013 at Hall Brothers Mortuary and Chapel at 2 pm in Corning followed by graveside services at Sunset Hill Cemetery where she will be buried next to her husband, who she so dearly loved.
