Betty took a peek beyond the pale, she liked what she saw and passed on through. Now she is in joyous company with all those family and friends that have gone on before. Betty Sarah Bills passed away in peace Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at the age of 81. She was born the youngest of four girls to Sarah and Harry Lindou in Denver, Colo., on March 3, 1931. She moved with her family to Orland when she was 12 and has lived in the area ever since.
Many will remember Betty as a career employee of the Orland branch of Bank of America. But, it was music and faith that defined her life. Betty began playing piano and later organ for the Orland Federated Church at 18. She met her husband, Melvin Bills, through church and music. Together they played and sang for more weddings, anniversaries, and memorial services that anyone can remember. Betty retired as church organist in 2005 but continued to play for choir and teach piano and inspire musical talent to an impressive group of Orland youngsters.

Betty is survived by her three children, Dennis Bills of Orland, Donald Bills of Flagstaff, Ariz., and Karen Bills-Jefferis of Upland; three grandchildren, Kelsey, Sarah, and Meghan Jefferis; and many nieces, nephews and their families. She is preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Melvin; and sisters, Harriet Jacobson, Jean Turner, and Clara Monroe.

A memorial service is being held Sunday, Feb. 10, 2013, at 3:00 p.m. at the Orland Federated Church, 709 First Street. Graveside service for family and close friends is Monday, Feb. 11, 2013, at 10:00 a.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery on county road P. Memorial contributions can be made in her name to the Federated Church memorial fund, Leukemia and Lymphoma Society or the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research.
