Irene Mary Wagner Grenfell, 104, of Colusa, died peacefully on September 24, 2013. She resided happily at Summerfield Assisted Living, in Yuba City, for the past five years.

Irene was born on October 21, 1908 in Yankton, South Dakota to James and Mary (Reidinger) Wagner.
She is preceded in death by her parents, brother; husband, Clarence E. Grenfell; and sister, Gertrude (Wagner) Taylor. She leaves behind her nephew, Jerry Taylor; niece Joyce (Taylor) Richard; several grand nephews and nieces; as well as many other family members and friends.
Irene was living in Fair Oaks, Calif. when she met Clarence Grenfell of Colusa, Calif. They soon married and she moved to Colusa. While Clarence served in the Army, in England during WWII, Irene helped out and kept books for Clarence's father at Grenfell Lumber Company. Irene Grenfell established the "Pink Ladies" Auxiliary for Colusa Regional Medical Center. She was active in this auxiliary for many years, until at age 99, she moved to Yuba City. She belonged to Colusa Golf and Country Club, as well as several Bridge Clubs. She and Clarence traveled to the Orient and many other distant places with Shrine, and she continued traveling into her 90's.
The family wishes to thank the caretakers at Summerfield for their kindness and loving care.
Graveside services were held at Colusa Cemetery Friday, September 27, 2013, at 1:00 p.m. Memorial contributions will be gratefully accepted by the Colusa Regional Medical Center Auxiliary. Arrangements were under the direction of McNary-Moore Funeral Service. FD 410
