Lloyd Allen Wells, Sr., 85 of Maxwell, Calif. passed on peacefully to his heavenly home, surrounded by family on January 29, 2013 At Colusa Hospital.

Born on September 8, 1927 in Colusa, Calif to Kenneth and Myrtle Wells, he spent his entire life in Colusa County. Lloyd was a rice farmer for 67 years.

In 1945, Lloyd entered the US Navy and served until the war was over.

Lloyd was very active in his community.

He served with the Maxwell Fire Department for 41 Years. He was a member of the American Legion Post #218, Colusa County Grand Jury, and The Draft Board. Lloyd was also a Boy Scout Leader and a Little League Coach for many years. He played on several community baseball teams. He was inducted into the Colusa County Sports Hall of Fame in 2005. His baseball talent earned him an invite to the New York Giants Spring Training Camp, but he was struck by polio three days prior to attending.

Lloyd's greatest joys were times spent with family and friends playing sports, camping, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed sharing his love of music. He played the harmonica, banjo, and guitar and composed songs for special events. One of his songs he played on the steps of the State Capital in Sacramento for a farming event.

Lloyd is survived by his loving wife of 62 years Connie Wells; sons, Allen Wells, Jr. (Denise), David Wells (Nita), and Jerry Wells all of Maxwell; daughter, Carolyn Steele (Scott) of Paradise, Calif.; brother, Ed Wells (Cheryl) of Maxwell; 11 grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Ken Wells, Jr., Lewis Wells, and William Edgar Wells.

Visitations will be held Sunday February 3, 2013 from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at the McNary-Moore Chapel 107 5th St. Colusa, CA. Funeral services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. Monday February 4, 2013 at the Maxwell Baptist Church, 177 N. California St. Maxwell, CA.

Burial will follow at the Maxwell Cemetery, and a reception will be held at the Maxwell Firehouse.

Memorial contributions may be made in Lloyds name to the Maxwell Fire Department or the Maxwell Cemetery Fund.
