Charlotte Maxine Brungard (née Ford), of Federal Heights, passed away peacefully June 17 at the age of 78 in Thornton. She was born June 15, 1940, in Greeley to Ollie (Max) Ford and Elma L. Ford (née Schlotthauer).
As a child, Charlotte lived in Greeley until her marriage to Robert Brungard in 1961. Shortly afterward, they moved to Wyoming and had two daughters, Dian and Robin. Within a few years, they returned to Colorado and settled in Commerce City where she worked and volunteered thousands of hours over 20 years. She later divorced and was married (from in September 1996 until death) to former Greeley High School classmate August Leland Bauer.
Charlotte and August spent 29 years travelling with friends and family, visiting, Spain, Gibraltar, Morocco, Canada, Mexico and 49 of the 50 United States.
She was a fierce advocate for her family, friends, and community, serving on multiple boards and committees to improve healthcare, housing opportunities, and education in the state of Colorado, Adams County, Commerce City, and School District 14.
She loved her family above all and spent her life serving others.
Survivors include her husband; children Dian M. (Brungard) Hastings of Melbourne, Florida, and Robin J. (Brungard) Smart [Coby] of Kremmling; four grandchildren, Christian H. Smart, Danielle M. Hastings, Beverly L. Smart and Robert J. Hastings; her brothers, Jim Schlotthauer [Judy] of Fullerton, California, Larry L. Ford I [Darlene] of Henderson and Jerry D. Ford of Brighton and multiple nieces and nephews.
Her parents preceded her in death.
A memorial service and luncheon will be at 11:30 a.m. Friday, June 29, at the clubhouse of Holiday Hills Village, 2000 W. 92nd Ave., Federal Heights.
