Mr. Gilbert Eugene McQueen (1935 - 2012)

Obituary

Gilbert Eugene McQueen, 77, of Commerce City, passed away Oct. 14, 2012, at his home. He was born Feb. 18, 1935, in Hanover, to Harry and Martha (Skinner) McQueen. He graduated from Calhan High School and joined the U.S. Army where he served for almost six years. He continued his education at the University of Colorado where he studied engineering. Gilbert married Martha Orndoff Nov. 28, 1958, in Ft. Momonth, Va.
Gilbert worked as a union carpenter building custom homes for several years and then was the owner and operator of Gem Construction, retiring in 1992. He then worked at the flea market until 2007. He was an avid fisherman, hunter, camper and loved fly tying and bowling.
He is survived by his children, Linda Hogan, of Commerce City, and Eugene McQueen, of Brighton; three grandchildren, Jeremiah, Nicholas and Dylan; three great-grandchildren, Faye, Leyden and Rylen. Other survivors include numerous nieces and nephews.
Gilbert was preceded in death by both of his parents, one brother, Bud, and one daughter, Doris.
Visitation was Sunday, Oct. 21, 2012, followed by funeral service Monday, Oct. 22, 2012, both at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton. A graveside service followed at Ft. Logan National Cemetery, Staging Area "C".
Tabor-Rice Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
