Janice Marie Brekke, 74, passed away at her home in Aurskog, Norway, Feb. 23. A memorial service was at Aurskog Chapel, with burial at Aurskog Cemetery March 7.
Janice was born June 20, 1942, in Fort Lupton, to Harvey G. and Amelia Nelson. She graduated from Fort Lupton High School in 1960 and lived in Denver for several years working for the University of Denver and later for Texaco Inc.
She married Erlend Brekke in 1972 and relocated to Norway where she made her home the rest of her life. Together they had two children, Anna Marie and John Ivar. Janice learned to speak and write the Norwegian language fluently and worked for Norsk Data and for more than 20 years at the University of Oslo.
Janice had many friends and family who traveled to Norway to visit her over the years. Family was very important to her, and she loved spending much time with them, especially her precious granddaughter Maria.
Janice had many interests including traveling, a Sudoku wizard, needlepoint and cross stitching, cooking/baking, making homemade cards and capturing the family memories/history in albums.
Her parents; brothers, John W. Nelson, Harvey Nelson, and David C. Nelson; and a nephew, Christopher Nelson, preceded her in death. Survivors are her daughter, Anna Marie Brekke, and granddaughter, Maria, of Lillestrom, Norway; her son John Ivar Brekke, of Trondheim, Norway; sisters Mary Ann Devers, of Cortland, Ohio; Linda (Joe) Shirey, of Broomfield; Nancy (Ron) Chambers, of Corning, California; brothers, James (Jeanette) Nelson, of Keenesburg, and Ron Nelson, of Fort Lupton; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and dear friends.
The family invites friends to join them at a luncheon for a celebration of Janice's life from 1 to 4 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 1, at The Alli Event Center, 100 S. Third Ave., Brighton.
