SHERROD, BETTY L. LANGFORD - Memphis  
Betty L. Langford Sherrod, 84, of Memphis, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2015. She was a devout member of Jehovah’s Witnesses and loved by her family and friends. Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Harold Lloyd Sherrod, granddaughter, Amy Sherrod Tolbert, two brothers and three sisters. Betty is survived by her sons, Jeffrey (Joy) Sherrod, Michael (Cathy) Sherrod, and Patrick (Paula) Sherrod; a sister, Helen Langford Watkins, nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday, February 25 from 5-7 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave. The funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 a.m. also at the funeral home. The interment will follow at Memorial Gardens.

SIMPSON, KENNETH - Oxford  
Kenneth Simpson, 59, of Memphis, passed away on Sunday, February 22, 2015. Ken was preceded in death by his loving wife Donna Simpson and his mother Maidell Simpson. Ken is survived by, his daughters, Jennifer, Jodie and Amanda, grandchildren, Austin, Hailey, Cody and Cameron, siblings, Gary, Mark, and Cathy, and his father, George Simpson. Ken was a member of Harmontown Baptist Church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. The family will receive friends and relatives on Saturday, February 28 from 1-2 p.m. with the funeral starting at 2 p.m. at Family Funeral Care, 4925 Summer Ave. The entombment will follow the funeral service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Moriah House, P.O. Box 1938 Memphis TN 38101.

SLAWSON, SHIRLEY RUTH  
Shirley Ruth Slawson was born in Memphis on November 27, 1934 to Eugene and Katie Rhea Balloue Pruitt who preceded her in death. Shirley went to be with the Lord on February 26 at the age of 80. Shirley was a member of Union Ave. Baptist Church. She loved to sing, buy toys for the kids in the family and things for the garden, and loved to shop at Goldsmith’s. Shirley received a Bachelor’s Degree from Memphis State in Education and worked at the old Baptist Hospital in medical Records. She was preceded in death by two nephews; Paul Eugene Till and Timothy Rhea Till. Shirley is survived by her husband, Harry Dale Slawson; nieces and nephews, Paula Till Lincoln, Glenn Till, Melody Till Schrimsher, Jonathan Till, Durward A. Till III, Sabrina Till Scott and Mamie Young; and by numerous other family members. SMITH, DOROTHY ROBERTSON  
Dorothy Robertson “Robbie” Smith, 71, of Memphis died peacefully on Sunday, February 22, 2015. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, M. Hue Smith III; her daughters, Dorothy Downard “Dee Dee” Dunehew (David) and Shelby Hue Terry (Bernard); two grandsons, Joseph Bryce Terry and Blake Hue Terry, and her furry daughter, T. George Smith. She also leaves her sisters, Ruth McCaughan Morrison, Judy Coburn McCalla, Jane Coburn Youngsman, Anne Coburn Brutsche; her brother, John Fletcher McKay, and aunt, Elizabeth L. Newhouse. She was predeceased by her father, James Ely Robertson, mother, Dorothy Downard McCaughan, stepfather, John Joseph McCaughan, brother, John Joseph McCaughan, Jr., sister, Anne McCaughan Kitts, and uncle, James Shelby Downard. Robbie was an avid reader, gardener, cook, and grammar cop. (We hope we have all of this grammatically correct.) A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m., on Tuesday, February 24, at Memorial Park Funeral Home. SPRINGER, SHIRLEY SUE MATHIS  
Shirley Sue Mathis Springer, 71, of Searcy, formerly of Germantown, TN, went to be with her Lord February 26, 2015 at Searcy Healthcare. She was born December 4, 1943 in Wardell, Missouri to the late Harry and Mable Mathis. In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Henry N. Springer; brother, Bill Mathis; and sister, Anita Mathis. A longtime resident of Germantown, TN, Shirley and her late husband owned and operated Henry Springer Collections in Memphis. She is survived by two sisters, Carol Pyeatt of Searcy, AR, and Pat Ward of Scott City, MO; and two brothers, Harry Mathis of Warrengton, MO, and Don Mathis of Foley, MO; as well as many nieces and nephews. Burial will be 11:30 a.m. Saturday, March 7 at Memorial Park Cemetery. Memorial Services will follow at 12:30 p.m. at Idlewild Presbyterian Church in Memphis.
