Alfred C. Avery, 82, of Hillsboro, passed away at Concord Hospice House Thursday, February 14, 2013 surrounded by family. Al was born in Hartford, Conn. in 1931. He graduated from Enfield High School, served in the USAF, and graduated from UConn with a degree in Entomology . He worked for the state of NH Department of Agriculture and DRED, and the USDA (Plant Quarantine, & Forest Service). After retiring from 30 years of state service, Al worked for the U.S. Forest Service and the N.H. Information Center on Route 9 in Antrim.
Al was active with the Boy Scout troops in Henniker and Hillsborough, the Contoocook Valley Radio Club, and several committees at Smith Memorial Church where he was a member.
Alfred and his wife Judith were married 49 years. He is survived by his children Jean Goddard, Steven and his wife Linda, Douglas, Kenneth and his wife Shea, Holly Mooney and her husband Shawn; sixteen grandchildren, and six great grandchildren.
Memorial service will be held Sunday, March 3, at 2 p.m., at Smith Memorial Church, Main Street, Hillsborough.
Burial will be in the spring at the convenience of the family.
