MANCHESTER – Bessie Manolis, 90, of Manchester, passed away March 13, 2014.
She was born April 15, 1923, in Lowell, Mass., a daughter of Anthony and Stella (Dimkas) Zografos, and had been a Manchester resident for many years.
Bessie was a longtime active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester. In 2013, she received the Metropolis of Boston Ministry Award, recognizing many years of service to her church.
Bessie very much enjoyed Scrabble, knitting, reading and attending her grandchildren's sports events, and was also an avid Red Sox fan.
She was predeceased by her husband, Harry Manolis.
Family includes two sons, Nick Manolis and his wife Linda, and Evans Manolis and his wife Elizabeth; five grandchildren, Lauren Mercier, Adam Manolis, Nicholas Manolis, Connor Manolis and Molly Manolis; two great-grandsons, Andrew Mercier and Nicholas Mercier; a brother, Charles Zografos; as well as nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be Monday, March 17, from 10 to 11 a.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Manchester.
Funeral service will be conducted Monday at 11 a.m. in St. George Cathedral. Burial will follow at Pine Grove Cemetery in Manchester.
