BOW - Conrad Bernard Desmarais, 87, died Sunday, April 20, 2014.
Conrad was born in Concord on Aug. 16, 1926, the son of the late George A. and Loretta R. (Parent) Desmarais.
He graduated from Sacred Heart Grammar School in 1940 and Concord High School in 1944. Upon graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Navy
and served until the end of World War II
. After the war, Conrad worked at his own building construction business before returning to school, graduating from Wentworth Institute in Boston in 1953. He worked for architectural firms in Concord and Manchester for many years before going to work for the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Bureau of Public Works, retiring in 1991.
Conrad and his late wife Janet built their own house on Bow Center Road and moved to Bow, Janet's hometown, in 1967. In Bow, Conrad served as a member of the town's building advisory committee and the school building committee. He was a former Scout Master for Concord Troop 78 and a life member of the American Legion Post No. 21.
Conrad was predeceased by his wife of 38 years, Janet Belle (Foote) and two brothers, Anatole and Claude Desmarais.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Philip C. Desmarais and his wife, Marylou, of Webster; three daughters, Anne M. Jones and her husband, Clint, of Bow, Joan E. Desmarais and her husband, Doug, Copeley of Webster and Jill A. Desmarais and her husband, Dan Frank, of Southborough, Mass.; a sister, Monique J. Pepin of Concord; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
A private family service will be held. Conrad will rest with his wife Janet at Evans Cemetery in Bow.
