Edna Karasik(1919 - 2013)

GRANTHAM - Edna Karasik, 93, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; devoted volunteer for charitable organizations; dedicated financial advisor; and life-long learner and arts enthusiast died peacefully Wednesday, February, 20th, 2013.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y. in August 1919, the daughter of Sol and Celia Lieberman. Edna attended New York City schools and Hunter College.

She married Philip Lustig in 1938, and had two sons, Martin and Charles. She and her husband operated women's apparel shops in New Jersey for 20 years. After selling the business, Edna worked for National Starch & Chemical, and, thus, began her long-standing fascination with the corporate world. She attended Rutgers University, The Institute of Finance, and N.Y.U. Business School.

She was a dedicated volunteer for the U.S.O., American Service Organization, American Cancer Society, and Muscular Dystrophy. She studied dance with the Martha Graham and Katherine Dunham Dance Troops. She was employed by Williston & Beane (later acquired by Merrill Lynch) and then numerous other investment firms on Wall Street as a financial advisor, being appointed vice president of Scheinman, Hochstin & Trotta in 1965. While living in Manhattan, she attended the New School and volunteered at St. Vincent's Hospital.

In 1968, Edna married Frank Karasik, an investment banker. They moved to Hill in 1975 where she continued in her profession and volunteered at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center. In 1988, she moved to Grantham and was employed by Lake Sunapee Bank until her retirement.

Edna is survived by sons Martin and Charles and their wives, Dianne and Gina; grandchildren, Vanessa, Cara, Celia and David Lustig; seven great grandchildren, Shannon, Trevor, Levi, Emma, Grace, Audrey and Cooper; and one step daughter, Carol Karasik.

In lieu of flowers, a donation to any would be appreciated.
