George Alfred "Red" Rollins(1922 - 2014)

George Alfred "Red" Rollins, 91, of Concord passed away Thursday, March 13, 2014, at Havenwood Retirement Community.
Red was born in Winter Haven, Fla., grew up in Contoocook and Concord, and graduated from Concord High School. He served as a Navy Aviation Machinist's Mate, First Class, during World War II in the South Pacific. Red returned home to attend the University of New Hampshire and graduated from the Whittemore School of Business in 1950. After UNH, Red owned and operated Brown & Saltmarsh, a retail office supply store on Main Street in Concord until he retired in 1985.
Red was a member of the Blazing Star Eureka Masonic Lodge No. 11, and a longtime member and volunteer at the Concord YMCA. He served on the boards of the Concord Regional Development Corporation, the Concord Chamber of Commerce and the Concord Chapter of the American Red Cross.
He was an avid outdoorsman, church choir member and gardener. Red enjoyed downhill skiing and skied with his grandchildren when he was in his 80s. Whether playing squash at the Y or kayaking on Northwood Lake, Red was a man who was always active. His family was his priority, he treated his neighbors as if they were family and he was loved and respected by his many friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Madeline "Nikki" Rollins; his daughter, Patricia Vaillancourt, and her husband Jim; his son Scott "Buck" Rollins, and his wife, Martha; four grandchildren, Jared, Ruby, Piper and Tatum; and one great-granddaughter, Skylar.
Please join his family and friends for a memorial service Thursday, March 20, 2014, at 2 p.m. in the auditorium at Havenwood, 33 Christian Ave., in Concord. The family asks you to wear an article of red for this celebration of his life. A reception will follow the service in the great room at Havenwood.
Memorial donations can be made to the Capital Campaign Fund at the Northwood Congregational Church, 881 First N.H. Turnpike, Northwood, N.H., 03261, where Red was a member.
