WARNER - Irene Vivian (Nunn) Brown, 92, of Warner, died peacefully Sunday, March 30, 2013 at home.
She was born in Peacham, Vt. December 04, 1920 the daughter of William Ernest Nunn and Gladys Ann (Farnham) Nunn. She was the sixth child of fifteen children, Hylan Isaiah Nunn wife Winnifred Powers (both deceased) Warner, Oliver Ernest Nunn wives Dola Dubray and Priscilla Blodgett (all deceased) Vermont, Kenneth Malcolm Nunn wife Margaret Hutchinson (both deceased) Peacham, Vt., Charlotte Madine Nunn Hutchinson husband Gordon (both deceased) Boscawen, Cerese Opal Nunn Sicely husband Clifton (both deceased) Marshfield, Vt., Ila May Nunn Shatney husband Delore (both deceased) Cabot, Vt., Eugene Steele Nunn wives Dola Dubray and Helen McPhee (all deceased) Danville, Vt., Earl Martin Nunn (stillborn) Peacham, Vt., Lyle Matthews Nunn wives Mildred Cole (divorced) and wife Shelby-Jean Davis Cabot, Vt., Arlene Lillian Nunn Miller husband Arthur Miller (deceased) McIndoe Falls, Vt., Marion Winona Nunn Searles husbands Robert Searles (divorced) and Arthur Meiggs (deceased) East Montpelier, Vt., Burnice Gladys Nunn Adams husband Winston Adams (deceased) Barnet, Vt., Blanche Ineze Nunn Ross husband Albert Ross (deceased) Morrisville, Vt. and Arnold Wesley Nunn wives Marylee Cady (divorced) and Shirley Carroll (divorced) Peacham, Vt.
Mom attended Peacham schools through the eighth grade and worked on her parents' farm until her move to Warner, January 22, 1939 to live with her brother Hylan Nunn. She worked as a housekeeper for the Courser, Rand and Bates families. She married Charles Emery Brown of Warner, September 05, 1940 and they divorced June 07, 1977. Charles was born April 10, 1913 in Peacham, Vt. and died July 30, 2004 in Boscawen. She was a homemaker raising five children. Throughout her life she also provided a home for children of other family members. In 1956 she started cleaning houses for families on Burnt Hill. In 1960 she went to work as a housekeeper for Orton and Jeanette Hill in Warner Village. After Jeanette's death she continued working for Orton and his sister Edna Hill, after Edna's retirement to Warner. After Miss Hill's death in 1988 she retired from housekeeping.
Mom enjoyed gardening, canning, baking, sewing, and working in her yard. She loved fishing in New Hampshire and Vermont, summers and winters, with her son Allan and brother Gene Nunn.
Survivors include three sons and a daughter all of Warner, David Emery Brown and wife Kathy (Partridge) and their child Loriann. David's children with Pamela (Paquin), Dawnmarie Brown and fiancée Steven McGowan and her son Matthew Brown, Brian Brown and wife Erin (Gilligan) and his son Thomas Brown; daughter Carol Jean (Brown) Howard, former husband Phillip Howard (deceased); Stephen Reed Brown and fiancée Jacqueline Katsch. Stephen's son with Sharon (Wheeler), Robert Brown and wife Stephanie (Gibbons) and their children Samuel, Ryan and Katherine; Allan Nunn Brown and wife Betty (Gove) and their children Nathan and partner Beth Sletten, Emily and partner Daniel Buckley and their daughter Kylie Irene Buckley. Mom was predeceased by her daughter Janice Shirley (Brown) O'Dougherty March 10, 2001; former husband Tim (divorced), and granddaughter Erin Leigh O'Dougherty December 08, 1970. Janice is survived by a daughter Denise (O'Dougherty) Erickson (Wayne) Salvas (Donald) and their children Joshua Erickson wife Stephanie, Stephen Erickson and his son Devon C. Grinley, Cory Salvas, Brandon Salvas and David Salvas. She was also predeceased by her daughter-in-law JoAnne Ellen (Leigh) Brown (David) January 19, 2010. She is survived by four children, seven grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild, two brothers, four sisters, nieces, nephews and many friends.
She will be dearly missed by a family who relied on her ability to steer them through life. We want to thank the Orton Hill family for giving Mom the opportunity to be self-sustaining.
Calling hours will be held Saturday, April 6, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., at the Holt-Woodbury Funeral Home & Cremation Service19 Hall Avenue, Henniker.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.
Burial will be in the Brown Family Cemetery at 164 Mason Hill Road Warner.
