Mrs. Judith A. (Auger) Smas, 70, died Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at her son's home in Pembroke.
Born in Pittsfield on Jan. 28, 1943, Judy was the daughter of the late Oscar and Irene (Come) Auger. She had spent most of her life in Hooksett and Pembroke, moving to Virginia in 2004.
She was a 1961 graduate of Pembroke Academy and had worked for more than 25 years as a secretary for the state Division of Motor Vehicles.
Judy was a life member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Suncook Valley VFW
and a 20-year member of the Auxiliary of the John J. Maguire American Legion. Active in both groups, Judy was past treasurer for both, past president of the VFW Auxiliary and had served as secretary for the VFW State conventions for 25 years.
She enjoyed traveling and trivia games and loved cats.
Members of her family include her husband, Sherrill Smas; a daughter, Jennifer Powers of Dover; step-children, Christopher Smas of Pembroke, Alana Mallat of Loudon and Sherilynn Nealy of Pembroke; seven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Auger and Jeffrey Auger, both of Epsom; and nieces and nephews.
Calling hours are at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main St., Pembroke, on Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m. and from 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown, followed by burial in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen at noon.
