Algie A. Beard, 67, of Concord passed away at home Tuesday, August 5, 2014, with his wife at his side.

He was born in Pittsfield, June 4, 1947, to Arthur L. and Florence V. (Hall) Beard. He grew up in the Concord area, graduating from Concord High in 1964. He served in the U.S. Army, 418th Transportation Company.

Algie drove tractor-trailer for 45 years, amassing almost 2 million miles accident-free. He received numerous safe driving awards, of which he was justifiably proud. He served as a commercial driving instructor for more than 10 years. Most recently he drove for Werner Enterprises out of Omaha, Neb. In his spare time he enjoyed fishing, gardening, building and tinkering, playing cards and especially spending time with his grandchildren. He was active with his church, the Church of Christ on Mammoth Road in Manchester.

He is survived by his wife, Diane, of Concord; four daughters, Kristin Allfrey and her significant other, Rick Calhoun of Williston, Fla., Karin (Gallant) and her husband, Brian Hovey of Manchester, Angela Beard of Concord and Joy (Beard) and her husband, Tim Gonyea of Wasilla, Alaska; "son" Rick Chase and his wife, Beth of Barnstead; two grandsons, Tyler and Owen Chase of Barnstead; two sisters, Sandra Martin of St. Petersburg, Fla. and Norma Gasper of Epsom; numerous cousins, nieces and nephews; and his beloved dog, Jake. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother, Stanley and his sister, Karen.

A memorial service will be held Monday, August 18th at 1 p.m. the Church of Christ, 141 Fisherville Road in Concord.

Inurnment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the New Hampshire State Veteran Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Highway in Boscawen.
