CANTERBURY – Mildred Laura (Vachon) Carbonneau, 95, was called home Monday, August 18, 2014.

She was born in East Broughton, Quebec on March 31, 1919, to Ernest and Mary (Fournier) Vachon.
Mildred and her family moved to Canterbury in the mid 1950's. She worked at the Allied Leather Tannery Company for many years, as well as The Apple House and Hazen Printing Company. She was also active in the American Legion Auxiliary and the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.
Her and her husband Joe enjoyed many Saturday nights dancing at the Moose Club. She was known for her extravagant Sunday afternoon dinners "out to the house". Her home was the central gathering place for every holiday and special event. She hosted many winter sledding and skating parties for three generations. She was a huge fan of the Red Sox and never missed a game.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lawrence "Joe" Carbonneau, of Canterbury; her son, Lowell Balch of Penacook; and her daughter, Gloria McDaniel of Boscawen.
She leaves her son, George E. Balch and his wife, Anne, of Ashland; daughter, Sally A. West of Boscawen; daughter-in-law, Carol Balch of Penacook; son-in-law, Ronald McDaniel of Boscawen; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; loving neighbors, Madison and Zackery Duclos; as well as her faithful canine companion, "Maddy".
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, August 21, at 10 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in Penacook.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Canterbury Volunteer Fire Department, 26 Baptist Road, Canterbury, NH 03224.
