STRAFFORD – Robert (Bob) Lester Burklund Sr., 80, of Bow Lake, Strafford, passed away peacefully at his home Thursday, Nov. 28, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
Bob is survived by his loving wife, Joan, of 57 years; daughter, Debbie Lee Marden and her husband, Linwood Sr., of Chichester; and sons Robert Lester Burklund Jr. and his wife, Laura, of Northwood, and Scott Gregg Burklund and his wife, Tammie, of Durham; sisters, Marline Page of Dover and Carla Downing of Boscawen. His daughter, Robin Leigh Drown (husband Richard) predeceased to cancer three years prior. Bob had many loving grandchildren: Linwood Marden Jr., Jessica Weeks, Lt. Nathan Marden, Lauren Dow, Tania Chamberlin, Ryan Drown, Gregg Burklund, Rachael Burklund, Rebecca Burklund, step-grandchildren Marc, Derek and Ryan Hubbard; nine great-grandchildren; nieces; nephews; and extended family. Bob was a loving father, husband, grandfather and friend to all.
Bob graduated from Coe-Brown Academy in Northwood and was a volunteer firefighter in Northwood for many years.
Bob was very handy and always had a project that he was working on. Whether it was his own or helping someone else, he could fix most anything. Bob was proud to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. He worked at the University of New Hampshire for 23 years in the maintenance department, then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard for 15 years in the maintenance trouble center, where he received many awards and certificates. After retiring from the shipyard he drove a bus part time for Northwood Transportation.
Bob was an honorary past master of Morrison Lodge #90 Masonic Lodge in Northwood and received the General John Sullivan Award for his notorious service.
Bob spent the past few winters in Florida surrounded by many great friends. In his spare time he liked camping, playing cards, dancing and flying his R/C plane, but most importantly just being with his family and friends. He will be sorely missed by his faithful companion, Shadow, their dog.
Calling hours will be Tuesday, Dec. 3, from 4 to 6 p.m., with a Masonic service to follow at Purdy Memorial Chapel, 2 Concord Road (Route 4) in Lee. Light refreshments will be served after the service at the funeral home.
A special thank you to the Seacoast Cancer Center in Dover for their loving care and support. Also, thank you to Purdy Funeral Service for all of the arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to the Seacoast Cancer Center (Remembering Robin fund) in Dover or Masonic Lodge #90 in Northwood.
