Allan V. Smith Sr., 80, of Boscawen, died Friday, May 10, 2013, at his home in Boscawen surrounded by his family.

Allan was born Dec. 16, 1932, in Sheffield, Vt., the son of Lawrence and Evelyn (Smith) Dopp.
Following his schooling, Allan served his country with the United States Army, serving in the Korean War. Upon his return from the service to his country, Allan worked for 26 years at Brezner Tannery in Penacook before its closure in the mid-1980s. He then worked for Frudenburg Nok for a number of years before his retirement in 1993.
Allan enjoyed gardening, playing cards, country music, puzzles, playing horse, as well as cooking for family and friends and the many family outings they would have. He was also an avid baseball and football fan.
He was predeceased by his wife of 47 years, Ida Smith, in 2002; his parents and five brothers: Wendell, Lester, David Carlton, and Lawrence Smith and a sister, Rita Sieron.
He is survived by four daughters: Migelle Amrol of Concord; Sherry Champagne and her husband, Earl, of Concord; Julie Porter and her husband, Jim, of Boscawen; Janeek Smith of Allenstown; and three sons: Allan V. Smith Jr. and his wife, Judy, of Boscawen; Eric Smith of Boscawen; Chris Smith of Boscawen; 18 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; a brother Larry Dopp of Derby, Vt.; many nieces, nephews and brother- and sister-in-laws of whom he was very fond of.
Calling hours will be held Monday, May 13, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Wendell J. Butt Funeral Home, 42 Washington St., Penacook, NH 03303. Services with military honors will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at the graveside in the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen.
