BRADFORD – Arthena "Teena" M. (Wilson) Stewart, 51, of High Street died Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon.
She was born in Mattoon, Ill., on Sept. 9, 1962, the daughter of Arthur and Elizabeth (Fulk) Wilson.
She graduated from Martinsville, Ill., High School in 1980 and received a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University. Teena went on to earn her LNA license. She worked with Lake Sunapee Region Visiting Nurse Association as a LNA for the past year and just loved her work. It was a real calling for her and she enjoyed caring for people.
She served in the U.S. Air Force from 1981-2001, which took her to many areas of the country. The family has lived in Bradford since 2007, before that living in Virginia and Alaska. She was active with the Bradford Women's Club, volunteering for the Bradford Community Food Pantry and working with Destination Imagination at Kearsarge Regional Middle School. Teena liked needlepoint, sewing and quilting. She also enjoyed animals and rescuing them, which was obvious by the dogs, kittens, birds and guinea pigs at their home.
She was predeceased by a brother, James Oscar Wilson. Members of her family surviving include her husband, Alexander C. Stewart of Bradford; four children, David A. Phillips of Casey, Ill., Lesslie Duernberger of Aurora, Colo., Kelsey Duernberger of O'Fallon, Ill. and Benjamin Stewart of Bradford; three grandchildren, Courtney and Riley Phillips and Aliceandra Hollenkamp; four siblings, Cheryl Garner and her husband, Michael, of Illinois, Bobbi Parsons and her husband, Michael, of Ohio, David and Samuel Wilson of Ill.; sisters and brothers-in-law, Robert C. and Emily Stewart Jr. of Newbury and Susan M.E. and George German of Kittery Point, Maine; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London, on Wednesday, Jan. 8, 2014, from 5 to 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, Jan. 9, 2014, at 11 a.m. at The First Baptist Church of Bradford, with the Rev. Lynne Hubley, pastor, officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Sunny Plain Cemetery, Bradford, in the spring.
