She was born July 24, 1946 in Panama City, Panama, the daughter of the late Col. Arthur F. and Elizabeth I. Hanson. Tina graduated from Concord High School, Concord, in 1964 and was a 1968 graduate of the University of New Hampshire, receiving a Bachelor of Science degree in Physical Education. She was a member of the Chi Omega sorority while attending UNH.
Tina married Karl W. Virgin in 1968 and lived in Hampton, and Ogunquit, Maine. She owned and operated Dot's Flower Shop in Exeter, for five years. She taught school for many years at Hampton Academy, Centre School and Marston School in Hampton. In her retirement years, Tina worked as an assistant race administrator for the Franconia Ski Club where she was a lifetime member and served on the Board of Directors. She was a long time member of the Southern Maine Women's Golf Association, Cape Neddick Country Club and former president of the Women's Golf League. She won the senior club championship several times and recently enjoyed a hole-in-one on her favorite course.
Tina's passions included spending much time as possible with her beloved grandchildren, playing golf, gardening, skiing at Cannon Mountain, walking on the Marginal Way in Ogunquit and on any beach she could find. She enjoyed great groups of friends at the beach, on the golf course and in the mountains. She was especially proud of her "biddies" (high school classmates) and their celebratory trips to the Caribbean for their 50th and 65th birthdays. She was a gracious hostess and always looked forward to entertaining at Camp Ogunquit and in Franconia. She was a proud woman who always put the needs of others in front of her own.
Tina's family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Dr. Amy Sievers of Portsmouth Hospital Hematology and Oncology and all the dedicated personnel at York Hospital Hospice who cared for Tina with kindness during her illness.
Besides her husband of 45 years, Tina is survived by her two children, Timothy K. Virgin and his wife, Christina (Halloran) Virgin of Portsmouth and Amy E. Golden and her husband, George Golden of Concord; five grandchildren, Hannah and Lucas Golden, and Charlotte, Caroline and Timothy James Virgin. She will be sadly missed by her sister and brother-in-law, Kimberly H. and Bradford Robinson of York, Maine; niece, Lindsay Robinson of Vail, Colo.; nephew, Tanner Robinson, York, Maine; and uncle and aunt, Leslie and Nancy LaFond of Ogunquit, Maine; as well as many cousins and lots of dear friends.
A celebration of life will be held Friday, May 23, at 11 a.m., at the First Parish Church, 180 York St., York, Maine, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Tina's memory may be made to the Marginal Way Preservation Fund, P.O. Box 1455, Ogunquit, ME 03907 or to the Franconia Ski Club/Mittersill Project, P.O. Box 462, Franconia, NH 03080.
