NASHUA - Charlotte M. (Brunnhoelzl) Howard, 75, died Friday, July 13, 2012, just shy of her 76th birthday, with family at her side in her home in Nashua, after a long, courageously fought battle with bronchiectasis.

She was born July 21, 1936 in Jamaica, N.Y., the eldest child of the late Frederick C. and Charlotte (Cook) Brunnhoelzl, Jr. She grew up on Long Island, N.Y. and in Henniker, and was a 1954 graduate of Henniker High School.
Charlotte was very artistic, had a keen eye for detail and design, and was a talented and creative seamstress, quilter, knitter, painter, and craftsperson. She did professional sewing for several specialty shops, mission projects, family, and friends. She enjoyed traveling, puzzles, gardening, stamp collecting, and ice cream.
Charlotte was one of the founders and first directors of the Little Pilgrim Kindergarten sponsored by Pilgrim Congregational Church in Nashua. She was an active member of Main Street United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday School teacher, on church fair committees, and helped with numerous United Methodist Women projects. She was a Girl Scout leader and helped lead a group of scouts to the international Girl Scout House in Mexico.
She had a varied work career including the Henniker Pharmacy soda fountain, keypunch operator at Improved Machinery in Nashua, secretary at the Church of the Good Shepherd in Nashua, retail work at Darling's Gift Shop in Milford and Nashua and Distinctly Christmas in Nashua, and Pharmacy Technician at Rice's Pharmacy in Nashua. She was especially happy and fulfilled in her role as Mom.
Charlotte had a kind, optimistic spirit, and gave generously of her time and talent. Family was everything to her and she leaves a lasting legacy of love, courage, strength, and wonderful memories. She made friends everywhere she went, and always saw the good and the positive potential in people. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Charlotte is survived by her loving family including her husband of 56 years, John Thomas "Tom" Howard of Nashua; two daughters, Carolyn M. "Cam" Howard of Nashua, and Allison M. Howard of Tampa, Fla.; a son, Jonathan T. "Nathan" Howard and wife Heather of Kailua Kona, Hawaii; a granddaughter, Cecilia Rinehart of Portland, Ore.; a sister, Marie P. Gilbert and husband Peter of Henniker; a brother, Frederick C. Brunnhoelzl, III and wife Carol of Henniker; two nephews, Jerry Gilbert and wife Shelagh Mannix, and Keith Gilbert and wife Mary, all of Henniker; two nieces, Lynn (Brunnhoelzl) Kimball and husband Nate of Henniker, and Cheryl (Brunnhoelzl) Devoe and husband Scott of New London; nine great nieces and nephews; several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Charlotte's family thanks Dr. Albee Budnitz and his staff and the Home Health and Hospice nurses for their professional and compassionate care.
A Celebration of Life will be held Saturday, July 21 at 10 a.m. at Main Street United Methodist Church, 154 Main Street, Nashua.
Private burial will be in the Henniker Cemetery.
