NEW LONDON – Dorothy "Dotty" C. Ambrose, 62, of S. Pleasant Street, died Sunday, Oct. 23, 2011, at home, surrounded by her family, after a brave struggle with pancreatic cancer.

She was born Dec. 5, 1948, in Melrose, Mass., the daughter of Matthew and Dorothy (Chetwynd) Connors. Dotty graduated from Melrose High School in 1966 and earned a bachelor's degree in social work from the University of New Hampshire in 1972. Dottie moved to New London in 1986 with her husband, Paul, where she raised her two children, Zachary and Rachel. She dedicated her life and career to the service of others, through her community and care giving work. Most recently, she had worked as a caregiver at Armistead Services and Kendal at Hanover.
Dottie loved the outdoors, traveling and spending time with her children and family. She will be remembered for her devotion to her children, her wonderful sense of humor and her positive, upbeat spirit.
Surviving members of her family include her son, Zachary J. Ambrose, 30, and her daughter, Rachel L. Ambrose, 24, both of New London; and five sisters, Diane, Patricia, Beatrice, Maureen and Kathy.
Friends may call Oct. 30 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday, Nov. 1 at 1 p.m. at The First Baptist Church of New London.
Burial will be held at the Old Main Street Cemetery in New London.
