PEMBROKE -Mr. Edward "Don" Berube, 76, a lifelong resident of the Pembroke- Allenstown area, died after a lengthy battle with cancer Thursday, July 5, 2012, at his home on Turnpike Street surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 31, 1935 in Allenstown, Don was one of eight children born to Moise and Claudia (Courchesne) Berube.
At 19 he joined the US Marine Corps and served during the Korean War. He worked as a painter for many years and then as a cement finisher for Associated Concrete. After his retirement in 2000, he did custodial work at Pembroke Academy.
Don loved spending time with his family and enjoyed dancing, gambling, and photography.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Cecile (Duford) Berube of Pembroke; six children, John Berube and his wife Robin of Chichester, Madeleine Gordon and Roger Yeoman of Allenstown, David Berube and his wife Tina of Chichester, Diane Berube and Rick Mellor of Hooksett, Mark Berube and his wife Rene of Epsom, and Donald Berube and his wife Diane of Pembroke; 14 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a son Leo in 1987 and by all his siblings.
Calling hours are Sunday, July 8, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Petit Funeral Home, 167 Main Street, Pembroke.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Monday, July 9, at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Allenstown, followed by burial with military honors in St. John the Baptist Cemetery.
