NEWPORT - Eke (Aikens) Behrens, 88, of Summer Street, died Tuesday, Oct. 1, 2013, at Summercrest in Newport.

She was born in Marienhafe, Germany on June 10, 1925, the daughter of Hendrik and Katarina (Fauerbach) Aikens. She lived in the Sunapee area for many years before moving to New London in 1999.
Mrs. Behrens was very active in the community and did a great deal of volunteer work.
Her husband, Harry Behrens, died in 1996.
She is survived by relatives in Germany and her husband's nephew and wife, George and Gloria Mirsberger of Sunapee, and a nephew, Ralph Behrens of Connecticut.
A memorial service will be held Friday, Oct. 4, at 11:30 a.m. at the Chadwick Funeral Home, 235 Main St., New London, with The Rev. Lynne Hubley, pastor of The First Baptist Church of Bradford, officiating.
Burial will be in Eastman Cemetery, Sunapee, at a later time.
